1940’s-inspired Hand-Carved Shoes from Lucky Lou Shoes!

Well, hello again! I know it’s been quite some time since I’ve updated, and to say that I’ve had a lot going on would be quite an understatement! After starting a wonderful new job a couple of months back, there have been some drastic changes to my life and schedule…for the better, of course! While my free time is very limited, I have been very busy working on the cookbook, as well as receiving some wonderful products to review.

I am especially excited about the review I am sharing with you today…Lucky Lou Shoes! For those of you who are not familiar with this wonderful company, Lucky Lou Shoes started in 2004 and makes reproduction vintage-style hand-carved shoes, which were very popular in the 40’s. They currently offer three gorgeous styles on their website – Rockin’ Tiki, Souvenir, and Gypsy Rose (which is also vegan-friendly!). All three designs feature amazingly intricate craftsmanship.

Lucky Lou Shoes | The Homicidal Homemaker

I was first introduced to Lucky Lou Shoes when my best friend purchased a pair at Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender. She had had her eye on them for many years, but was a little on the fence about ordering them simply because she was unsure of which size to order, so when the opportunity arose to actually get to see them and try them on at the event, she jumped on it and couldn’t have been happier!

The moment I laid eyes on their shoes, I immediately was in love with them and knew that I absolutely wanted a pair as well! So one could only imagine how excited I was when I found out that a pair would be heading my way.

I received the Souvenir style in Leopard, which is inspired by the “Bahay Kubo” shoes from the 1940’s, and features a hand-carved 3-inch heel with a palm tree and tiki hut design. You really can see the love and attention to detail that is put into these shoes! The Souvenir style is also available in Red Leather and Black Leather.  The reason that the Souvenir style really stood out to me, was that there was a hollowed-out area on the base of the shoe, which I thought would be perfect for adding some ribbon to, to tie around your ankle for a cute alternate look as well as a little extra ‘security’ while wearing them. The shorter heel also seemed like it would be easier to wear, in my opinion.

It was pretty difficult to pick a favorite out of the three color options, simply because my entire wardrobe is mostly black, red and leopard print. But the leopard print really stood out to me, and really

complimented the beautiful wooden base of the shoe. They are also extremely versatile, because you can dress them up or down – they look awesome with dresses as well as more casual outfits, like jeans! I also love the addition of the silver studs along the side of the strap!

As for comfort – I’m going to be honest here: the thought of a wooden-base shoe didn’t sound comfortable whatsoever to me, but I was completely wrong! They come with a padded insole, and the strap was extremely comfortable as well! I also was a bit nervous about them being slippery, but again, I was wrong – they have a very secure rubber sole with tread, so slipping is absolutely not an issue.

Sizing – I was a little nervous about this, just as my friend was, but there is no need to be worried – they run very true to size. I sometimes wear an 8, and sometimes an 8.5. I ended up going with a size 8, and they fit perfectly. My friend is between a 9 and 9.5, and she went with a 9 and they were perfect for her. If you are ever in question, Lucky Lou Shoes has wonderful customer service and has the exact lengths and dimensions of their shoes.

Now, on to the other styles available on their website!

The Rockin’ Tiki is my second favorite – I just love the tiki head stiletto heel! How cool is that?! Like the Souvenir style, the Rockin’ Tiki is available in Black Leather, Red Leather, and Leopard print, and features a hand-carved 4-inch heel.

The newest style offered is the Gypsy Rose style, which is also gorgeous! The Gypsy Rose features a hand-carved 3-inch heel, and is available in Red Vinyl and

Black Vinyl. The Gypsy Rose is vegan-friendly, which I think is a really cool option for them to offer. The hand-tooled vinyl strap looks just like vintage leather!

If I haven’t made it clear already, these shoes are incredible, wonderful quality. I truly am blown away that such a beautiful shoe can be so comfortable! And yes, I absolutely plan to get the Red and Black ones as well! 🙂
