Yummy Mummy Monster Cereal Fudge

As you probably saw on one of my previous posts, I was over the moon about General Mills bringing back Yummy Mummy and Frute Brute, two of the discontinued Monster Cereals. Frute-Brute-Fruity-Yummy-Mummy

I am proud and excited to say that I received both Yummy Mummy and Frute Brute, along with the other three Monster Cereals, before they hit the shelves, so I could concoct some delicious recipes just in time for the Halloween season! A huge thanks to General Mills for giving me this opportunity!

The cereals arrived this past Friday while I was hosting my brother’s “The Walking Dead”-themed birthday party, and it took every ounce of willpower to not immediately tear into them and gobble them up! So…I waited until I was absolutely certain on a few of the recipes I was going to make before doing the “taste test”, and trust me…I was not disappointed! Every bite was pure nostalgia for me, as I haven’t gotten to taste this particular cereal since the early 90’s!

Yummy Mummy is an orange-cream flavored cereal with marshmallow bits, and Frute Brute is a cherry flavored cereal with marshmallow bits. Now, originally, the two cereals had the same flavor, just different names, and were a ‘mixed fruit’ flavored cereal. When General Mills decided to resurrect these two awesome monsters from their graves, they took the recipe and divided the flavors to make two awesome new variations of these beloved classics! So, if you mix the two together, then you have the original recipe. 🙂

My first of many creations using the Monster Cereals for 2013 is my Yummy Mummy Fudge.

Since the launch of TheHomicidalHomemaker.com, I have noticed that many of my readers are either beginner cooks, or do not know how to cook at all! Some of my readers are pre-teens and young adults, so I wanted to create a recipe that was SUPER easy to put together, and had minimal steps. Usually, when I make fudge, a candy thermometer is involved, along with many other ingredients. Not this time!

This recipes starts off using a fail-proof Frosting Fudge recipe, and is studded with crispy Yummy Mummy, and drizzled with Orange Creme-flavored candy melts. If you can’t find the Orange Creme-flavored candy melts, worry not! The fudge has plenty of flavor and sweetness on it’s own, and is fine without it…OR…you may drizzle it with colored candy melts of your choice. Seriously…this fudge took about 5 minutes to prepare!

WARNING: This is an extremely sweet fudge, so you will want to serve this in very bite-sized pieces.

Yummy Mummy Fudge Ingredients | The Homicidal Homemaker
What You Need:
• 1 can of icing (I used Pillsbury Creamy Supreme Buttercream)
• 1 1/2 – 2 Cups of vanilla/white-chocolate chips (or one 10-12 ounce bag)
• 1 Cup of Yummy Mummy Cereal (or Monster Cereal of choice!)

Other Ingredients:
• Orange Cream Candy Melts, for drizzling (optional)
• Additional cereal pieces, for garnish
• Colored sugars/sprinkles of choice (optional)

STEP ONE: Line an 8-inch square baking pan with foil or parchment paper, and lightly spray with cooking spray; set aside. Place vanilla/white-chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each one, until chips are melted-through and smooth. Be careful not to overheat or burn them!

STEP TWO: Completely remove foil seal from can of frosting. Microwave for 5-8 seconds to slightly soften. Immediately stir frosting into melted chips until combined. Add 1 Cup of Yummy Mummy (or cereal of choice) and blend until combined.

STEP THREE: Spoon mixture into prepared baking pan. Use a spatula sprayed with cooking spray to press mixture evenly into pan, and smooth out.

STEP FOUR: Melted Orange Cream-flavored candy melts in microwave; stir until smooth. Drizzle over fudge. Garnish with additional cereal pieces, and sprinkles, sugars or candies of choice.

STEP FIVE: Refrigerate for about 10-15 minutes, until cooled and firm. Remove foil/parchment paper from pan, and cut into small bite-sized pieces. Serve, and enjoy! 🙂
